From its humble beginnings in a small butcher shop in Ascot, Brisbane, Hans Continental Smallgoods has grown into one of the most recognised brands in Australia for delicious meats and smallgoods. The aim of the young Dutch-born chef, Hans Van Der Drift, was to bring the distinctive tastes of Europe to Australia with authentic recipes using the highest quality ingredients. It’s this unwavering commitment to quality in every aspect of the business that has cemented its reputation across Australia and internationally as a brand that takes pride in its products, cares for its customers and always looks for ways to improve.

After opening in 1960, the Hans business grew quickly, as did its product range . By 1970, the company had outgrown its original location and moved to its previous factory at Colmslie where they expanded into Queensland’s number one brand in continental salamis and sausages/wursts. Throughout all of the expansions, Hans never relented on using the best meats and spices. Hans’ motto, “You can tell by the taste it’s Hans”, reminded him to insist on exceptional quality and excellence of service – his recipe for success.
